Chiba Lotte Marines: April 18, 2010

...Marines pitchers started taking BP on Saturday in preparation for Inter-league play.  On Sunday, Hiroki Ueno, Yoshihiro Ito, and Bryan Corey took their turns working on their bunts.

...Yoshihisa Naruse managed to keep the ball in the park during his shutout victory on Saturday (he has currently given up the most home runs in the NPB with 6).

...Saburo collected his 1,000th career hit in Saturday's game.  It was a 2-run homer off Chihiro Kaneko in the 5th inning.  After the game, he told reporters he never thought he'd be able to reach 1,000 hits.  Saburo also told reporters that he felt the team was better than the 2005 team that won the Nippon Series.

...While the Marines fell two hit shorts of extending their consecutive games with double-digit hits, they did managed to keep it going over 7 days.  Here's the breakdown:

4/17 - 10 hits, 9 runs, W
4/15 - 14 hits, 6 runs, W
4/14 - 10 hits, 6 runs, W
4/13 - 15 hits, 8 runs, W
4/11 - 12 hits, 11 runs, W
4/10 - 10 hits, 5 runs, L
4/9 - 12 hits, 8 runs, W

The Marines also fell short of tying their own club high of 8 consecutive double-digit hit games, set back in 1980 and 1989.  The 1950 Shochiku team had the NPB record of 15 games.
