4/19/2010: Hideki Matsui records his 200th career MLB double

by on Apr.19, 2010 @ 11:44 am, under MLB

Games from the 18th:

Tigers 4 - Mariners 2
Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted first.  He went 1-for-3: ground out to second, ground out to short, single to  center, walk.  Ichiro has now hit in four straight.

Angels 3 - Blue Jays 1
Hideki Matsui was the starting DH and batted clean-up.  He went 2-for-4 with an RBI: fly out to center, line out to second, RBI double to center, double to left-center.

Matsui's first double (in the 6th inning off Scott Downs) was his 200th of his MLB career.  When a club employee asked Matsui if he wanted to ball, he apparently declined.

Cardinals 5 - Mets 3
Ryota Igarashi entered the game in the bottom of the 8th with 2 outs, a runner on second, and the score tied at three.  He faced two batters: a 2-run homer to Ryan Ludwick and a fly out to left by Albert Pujols.

Astros 3 - Cubs 2
Kosuke Fukudome entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 9th and walked.

Kazuo Matsui did not play.

Pirates 5 - Reds 3
Akinori Iwamura did not play.

Koji Uehara tossed BP on the 18th and did not experience any problems with his left hamstring.  He will now likely have a chance to pitch in a simulated / practice game on the 19th.  It seems likely that Uehara will also become the team's closer when he returns to the Majors.
