...Tsuyoshi Wada threw about 50 pitches in the bullpen on Monday. Wada will go for his fourth consecutive victory on the 22nd (vs Seibu Lions).
...Hideaki Takahashi took part in Ichi-gun pitcher's practice on Monday. He will likely get the Ichi-gun start against the Seibu Lions on Wednesday. The Hawks have lost three consecutive Wednesday games to start the season.
...Hiroki Yamada is apparently a candidate to join the Ichi-gun pitching staff during the Hawks' 9-game stretch that begins on the 27th.
His numbers so far at Ni-gun this year:
...Jose Ortiz apparently plays better when his family is around, or at least that's what Sponichi is claiming. In 109 games last season, Ortiz batted .282 with 20 homers and 74 RBI. During that period, with his family in Japan (between 5/19 and 7/20), Ortiz batted .296 with 10 homers and 36 RBI (a span of 44 games). After his family left, his numbers dropped to .262 with 6 home runs and 26 RBI (a span of 48 games).
...Because the Hawks signed Roberto Petagine, they now only have room for one more player on their 70-man roster. That means if they want both J.D. Durbin and Michael Olmsted, they'll need to sign one of them to an Ikusei contract.
Speaking of Petagine, it seems the Hawks will be the last team he plays for.
...Koji Akiyama is 13 games away from winning his 100th game as Softbanks' manager. If his team can win 13 out of the next 28 games on the schedule, he'll be the quickest to 100 victories in franchise history. As of now, Katsuya Nomura holds the record (from his time as manager of the Nankai Hawks) with 100 wins in 197 games.
...The Hawks are giving away 30 pink uniforms (10 with actual player signatures) to 30 lucky female fans.
