4/21/2010: Ichiro Suzuki, Hideki Matsui

by on Apr.21, 2010 @ 2:47 pm, under MLB

Games from the 20th:

Angels 6 - Tigers 5
Hideki Matsui was the starting DH and batted fourth.  He went 1-for-4: strikeout, strikeout, 2-run double into the gap in right-center, fly out to short.

Matsui is now 6 hits away from 1,000 MLB hits.

Red Sox 7 - Rangers 6
Hideki Okajima entered the game in the middle of the 8th with 2 outs and faced three batters: single to center, walk, fly out to second.

Mariners 3 - Orioles 1
Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted lead-off.  He went 2-for-4: single to right, strikeout, single to center, ground out to short.  Ichiro has now hit safely in 6 straight games.

Astros 7 - Marlin 5
Kazuo Matsui entered the game in the 7th on defense (taking over at second) and executed a successful squeeze bunt (that broke a 4-4 tie) during his lone at bat in the 8th.

Brewers 8 - Pirates 1
Akinori Iwamura started at second and batted lead-off.  He went 0-for-3: reached on an error to short, fly out to left, walk, ground out to second.

Mets 4 - Cubs 0
Kosuke Fukudome started in right and batted lead-off.  He went 0-for-3: ground out to short, walk, strikeout, foul out to left.

Ryota Igarashi entered the game in the 8th with the Mets up by 2 runs.  It seems Igarashi may have hurt his left hamstring while trying to field a bunt that was hit by the first batter he faced.  He stayed in the game for two more batters (retiring Fukudome on a foul out to left) before calling time with tightness in his hamstring.  Igarashi was lifted after that.

Igarashi later told reporters that he felt he may have pulled a muscle and that it probably wasn't a tear since he was still able to pitch after the injury.  Igarashi also said that the area he was feeling pain in was higher than where he felt pain 2 years earlier.

Takahashi Hisanori did not pitch.
