4/23/2010: Daisuke Matsuzaka, Toshihisa Nishi

Games from the 22nd:

Tigers 5 - Angels 4
Hideki Matsui started in left and batted fourth.  He went 2-for-5: single to right, strikeout, solo homer, ground out to second, ground out to first.

On defense, Matsui fielded four hits to left, a sac fly, and a foul fly without any major difficulties.  He told reporters after the game that his legs felt fine despite all the running around he did in left.

Brewers 20 - Pirates 0
Akinori Iwamura started at second and batted first.  He went 1-for-4: strikeout, ground out to short, ground out to second, single to right.  Iwamura was substituted by a pinch-hitter in the 9th inning.

Mets 5 - Cubs 2
Kosuke Fukudome entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 7th inning with one out and a runner on third.  He hit an RBI single to right and finished the night, 1-for-1.

Hisanori Takahashi did not make an appearance for the Mets.

Marlins 5 - Astros 1
Kazuo Matsui started at second and batted second.  He went 0-for-4: ground out to short, foul out to third, groud out to first, line out to third.


Daisuke Matsuzaka's first MLB start could come on either the 26th or 27th (either start would be against the Toronto Blue Jays).


Kenshin Kawakami will be starting Friday's game against the New York Mets.  He will be shooting for his first victory of the year.


Toshihisa Nishi played in his first game with the Lancaster Barnstormers on the 22nd.  He started at second and batted 9th.  Nishi went 0-for-4 with 2 strikeouts.  The Barnstormers lost the game to the Long Island Ducks, 8-5.
