...A number of Carp players, including Kenta Kurihara, Jun Hirose, Tetsuya Kokubo, Kenta Maeda, Yuki Saito, and Eric Stults, worked out at Mazda Stadium on Monday. Amaya Soichiro was also at the stadium and ended up staying back after BP to work on his swing with Kenjiro Nomura.

...10-15-0 (5th place): The Carp were 1-4 this past week. Jun Hirose led the team in hitting, going 8-for-19 (.421) with an RBI and a R. The Carp ended their week by getting swept by the Giants for the second time this season. The last time Hiroshima dropped their first 6 games against Yomiuri was back in 1959, when they dropped 7 straight to start the season. Incidentally, their longest losing streak against the Giants is 9 games, set back in 1951 and repeated again in 1954. The Carp have also dropped 8 straight at Tokyo Dome (since 7/2/2009).
One of the main problems for Hiroshima this year has been the number of home runs their pitchers have allowed. Home runs allowed from this past week:
vs Hanshin on 4/20 (loss): 3-run homer to Keisuke Kano
vs Yomiuri on 4/23 (loss): 2-run homer to Alex Ramirez and a 3-run homer to Hayato Sakamoto
vs Yomiuri on 4/24 (loss): solo homer to Shinnosuke Abe, grand slam to Yoshitomo Tani, solo homer to Seung-Yeop Lee
vs Yomiuri on 4/25 (loss): 2-run homer to Mihichiro Ogasawara, solo homer to Wirfin Obispo, 2-run homer to Yoshinobu Takahashi
That's 19 runs on 9 home runs. On the year, the Carp pitching staff has surrendered 29 home runs over 25 games, good for worst in the NPB.
Upcoming schedule: the Carp begin a 9-game stretch on Tuesday. They will be play three against Yokohama (at Mazda Stadium), three against Chunichi (at Mazda Stadium ), and three against Yokohama (at Yokohama Stadium).
