Orix Buffaloes: April 26, 2010

by on Apr.26, 2010 @ 5:41 pm, under NPB

...14-14-0 (4th place): The Buffaloes went 3-3 this past week.  Shogo Akada went 9-for-18 with 3 RBI and 4 R.  Fumihiro Suzuki had 6 RBI.

The Buffaloes have been struggling since the start of the month.  But this week may have been one of the toughest as they not only lose So Taguchi (taken off the active roster on the 21st, could miss a month due to a hamstring tear) but also Alex Cabrera (taken off the active roster on the 24th, will miss at least 10 days due to pain in his left flank).  The offense will definitely take a hit with the loss of both Taguchi (.300 / .340 / .440) and Cabrera (.407 / .500 / .802).

Upcoming schedule: the Buffaloes begin a 9-game stretch on Tuesday.  They will be play three against Nippon Ham (at Sapporo Dome), three against Rakuten (at Kleenex Stadium), and three against Softbank (at Kyocera Dome).

...Akinobu Okada was upset and frustrated that Mitsutaka Goto couldn't properly field a ball in the top of the 9th on Sunday.   Said Okada, "If a ball is sharply hit with a runner on second, you've got to be ready to dive at the ball [to make sure it doesn't get into the outfield].  They're taking things lightly.  They aren't taking this seriously enough.  The weight of it.  Of baseball."

The fielding miscue led to another run that put the team down, 3-1.  In the bottom of the 9th, Goto didn't regain any points with Okada after he lead-off the inning and grounded out to second.

...Osamu Hamanaka joined the Ichi-gun roster for practice on Monday and will likely be promoted on Tuesday.
