...16-14-0 (3rd place): The Hawks went 3-3 this past week. Hitoshi Tamura went 9-for-23 (.391) with 2 HR, 5 RBI, and 4 R. Nobuhiro Matsuda drove in 6 RBI.
Munenori Kawasaki's hitting streak ended at 20 on Saturday. He also had his sixth 3-hit game of the year on Sunday against the Chiba Lotte Marines. And while Jose Ortiz has helped the team out with his bat this past week (HR, 3 RBI, 2 R), he has also hurt them with 4 errors (span of four games).
Nobuhiko Matsunaka started in one game (0-for-4) and had two pinch-hit chances (1-for-2) this past week. He's been struggling with the bat and didn't have a hit in 16 trips to the plate until his pinch-hit single on Sunday.
Upcoming schedule: the Hawks begin a 9-game stretch on Tuesday. They will be play three against Rakuten (at Yahoo Dome), three against Lotte (at Yahoo Dome), and three against Orix (at Kyocera Dome).
As mentioned yesterday, Sadaharu Oh attended the Tokyo Big 6 games on Sunday. Here are some slightly longer comments from Oh, this one on Tatsuya Oishi:
"He's got velocity. He was hitting the 150km/h range. He was throwing some good pitches and he has some promise. He pitched with runners on base today and gave up some runs, but I hope I'll have a chance to see him pitch without any runners the next time around."
And a little extra on Saito Yuki:
"...I really wanted to see Yuki pitch. It's really too bad I couldn't see him pitch today. He's got good command and he knows how to read batters and set them up."
He then added:
"There's a lot of good pitchers in this year's draft, and in order to finalize which pitchers we want to go after, I need to do some looking with my own eyes. I'm also hoping to check out some high school games."
