4/30/2010: Kosuke Fukudome hits his first MLB grand slam

Games from the 29th:

Reds 4 - Astros 2
Kazuo Matsui started at right and batted second.  He went 1-for-2: ground out to third, walk, single to center.  He was replaced by a pinch-hitter for his at bat in the 7th.

Diamondbacks 13 - Cubs 5
Kosuke Fukudome started in right and batted second.  He went 1-for-4: fly out to short, fly out to short, ground out to first, grand slam.

Fukudome becomes the first Japanese player since Ichiro to hit a grand slam in the Majors in April 2009 (it also the 16th overall grand slam hit by a Japanese player and first for Fukudome).

Cardinals 10 - Braves 4
Takashi Saito entered the game in the 8th with the Braves down, 10-4.  He tossed a scored a scoreless inning.  Final line: 1 IP, 4 BF, 0 H, 1 SO, 0 BB, 0 ER.


Akinori Iwamura was held out of the starting line-up on the 29th because of a cold.


Koji Uehara will have at least one AAA appearance at before rejoining the MLB roster (meaning he won't be activated on 5/1 as initially reported yesterday).

Uehara started a AA game on the 29th and tossed one scoreless inning and issued a walk.  He did not allow any hits, did not strike anyone out, and topped out at 85 mph.  Uehara told reporters after that game the he worried too much about his left hamstring while pitching that he couldn't pitch the way he wanted to.


Hiroki Kuroda tossed 36 pitches in the bullpen on the 29th in preparation for his start against the Pirates on the 5/2.


Toshihisa Nishi picked up his first independent league hit on the 28th (during the second game of a double-header vs the Newark Bears) when he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.  It was his fourth game of the season.
