Notes

The Giants fail to pick up their 20th win of the season.  They also suffered their second walk-off loss of the year. ... The Tigers have won three games in a row.  This was their second walk-off victory of the year. ... Up until this outing, Ochi (YOM) had only allowed one run in 13 appearances (11.2 IP). ... Some more info on the play that ended the top of the third in a somewhat awkward fashion: Sakamoto was caught in a run-down between home and third; Sakamoto returned to third, but Wakiya was also at third now; but with Sakamoto returning to third, Wakiya now had to return to second, but could not as he was tagged out by Jojima; for some reason, Sakamoto then moved away from third and Jojima tagged him out as well.

About the play that ended the 3rd… after Sakamoto returned to third in the rundown, Johjima tagged both Sakamoto and Wakiya. Under the rules, it’s the rear runner (Wakiya in this case) that’s out when two runners occupy the same base. Sakamoto, though, thought that HE was the one that was out, so he stepped off to return to the dugout, and Johjima tagged him again.

Yep. As stated under rule 7.03:

      “二走者が同時に一つの塁を占有することは許されない。ボールインプレイのさい、二走者が同一の塁に触れているときは、その塁を占有する権利は前位の走者に与えられているから、後位の走者はその塁に触れていても触球されればアウトとなる。”

      Or:

Two base-runners can not occupy one base at a time. When the ball is in play, and two base-runners have touched the same base, the lead-runner has the right over the base while the trail-runner will be called out when tagged.

Hara blames himself for the miscue. Third base coach Ogata didn’t think it was a matter of Sakamoto not knowing the rules, but rather not mentally being present during the play. And Sakamoto simply said that he wanted to make sure it never happened again.
