Softbank Hawks: May 2, 2010

...The Hawks climbed into first for the first time since 7/18/2009 on Saturday.

...Jose Ortiz is on fire against the Chiba Lotte Marines.  Ortiz went a combined 4-for-8 with 3 homers, 2 run scored, and 4 RBI against the Marines on Friday and Saturday.  So far on Sunday, Ortiz is 1-for-4 with a solo homer.

Ortiz also became the first player since Katsuya Nomura (Nankai Hawks) in 1961 to hit 10 home runs in either league.

Hiroki Kokubo has also hit well against the Marines.  He went a combined 4-for-8 with 2 homers, 3 runs scored, and 3 RBI on Friday and Saturday and is 1-for-3 so far on Sunday.

The two players also went back-to-back in two consecutive games (Friday and Saturday).

...Shinsuke Ogura made his first start at Yahoo Dome since 8/4/2002 (vs Seibu Lions) on Saturday.  It also happened to be his first win at Yahoo Dome and his second win this year.

...Hitoshi Tamura hit a homer in the 5th inning on Saturday and is now one homer away from career number 150.

...Takahiro Mahara notched his 140th career save on Saturday.  That's good for 9th on the All-time list and 2nd in Pacific League history.

...Down on the farm (in a Ni-gun game against Hanshin on Saturday):

Hidenori Tanoue knocked out two homers and finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBI; Nobuhiko Matsunaka also knocked out a home run and went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.  Teruaki Yoshikawa appeared in his first game after being traded to the Hawks and gave up 1 run over 5 innings of work (5 IP, 23 BF, 4 H, 3 BB, 2 HBP, 1 SO, 1 ER).
