...23-15-1 (T-2nd place):  The Hawks had a fair amount of success during their 9-game campaign, winning all three series -- swept the Rakuten Eagles, took two of three from the Chiba Lotte Marines, and went 2-0-1 against the Orix Buffaloes.  They finished out their campaign with a 7-1-1 record.

The Hawks did also manage to take possession of first place, but only for one day (5/1).

...The Hawks hit three batters in Wednesday's game against the Orix Buffaloes.  Two of them hit Greg LaRocca.  And the second time LaRocca was plunked (in the 7th inning), both benches cleared.  Keisuke Katto was on the mound at the time.  Koji Akiyama comments on the HBPs:

"They thought there were too many HBPs in the game.  But it's not like were were trying to hit [their] batters."

Pitching coach Ikuo Takayama added:

"Katto throws the shuto (which hit LaRocca) and if you take that pitch away from him, he loses his out pitch.  He didn't throw the pitch to hit anyone on purpose.  It wasn't even one of those spots where it would make sense."

...The Hawks will be handing out free Victory Flags to fans that attend games on the 7th and 8th.
