Nippon Ham Fighters: May 11, 2010

by on May.11, 2010 @ 10:33 pm, under NPB

...The Fighters held a 2-hour practice a Koshien Stadium on Tuesday.

...Bobby Keppel might be starting tomorrow's game against the Hanshin Tigers.  Hirotoshi Masui could follow on Thursday.  Ordinarily, Masui would be starting before Keppel, but the Fighters like the stability Keppel has over Masui.

...Masataka Nashida told reporters that he'll likely make changes to the number four hitter based on how players are doing at the plate.  The Sponichi articles makes use of the phrase "日替わり4番," which literally translates to "daily changes to the number 4 hitter."

Nashida also said that he planned on continuing to start Yu Darvish on Saturdays during Inter-league play but couldn't guarantee for how long that would last since "rain can't be predicted."  So it seems the Fighters will give him 6-days of rest in between his starts.  Said pitching coach Kazuyuki Aizawa, "Even if he went on 5 days of rest, he'd get the same number of starts (5).  But more important than that is allowing him to regulate himself."

...Sho Nakata had successful surgery on his left knee on Monday.  He will be discharged from the hospital on the 13th.

...Atsunori Inaba collected his first walk-off hit since 5/3/2009 on Saturday.
