...The Eagles announced today that Kazuo Fukumori will be undergoing surgery to remove bone spurs from his right elbow on the 13th.  Fukumori will likely miss about 3 months.  Fukumori initially felt some discomfort in his right elbow on 3/28.

Hiromichi Fujiwara was examined on Monday and diagnosed with an injury to ligaments in his left elbow.  He will be out at least 3 weeks and will not be allowed to throw for at least 1 week.

...The Eagles announced today that Ichi-gun infielder / base-running coach Mineo Fukuhara and Ni-gun infielder / base-running coach Yasuo Nagaike were swapping places.

...Marty Brown told reporters that he felt Masahiro Tanaka could handle batting in hit-and-run situations.

Brown was also fined 50,000 yen and given a stern warning for getting ejected from a game against the Nippon Ham Fighters on Sunday during a close play at home (Eagles on defense).  It was Brown's second ejection of the year and tenth of his NPB managerial career.

...Tanaka suffered one of his worst defeats on Sunday against the Nippon Ham Fighters (the last time he gave up 7 runs was on 7/12/2008 vs the Chiba Lotte Marines).  He also gave up his second grand slam of his career (the first came on 8/30/2008 against the Chiba Lotte Marines).

...The Eagles have posted event information for their series against the Yokohama Bay Stars (5/18 - 19) and Yomiuri Giants (5/21 - 22).
