by on May.13, 2010 @ 5:12 pm, under NPB

...Kenji Otonari is scheduled to start today's game against the Chunichi Dragons.

...Nagisa Arakaki's next Ni-gun start will likely be on the 16th against Hanshin.

...Nobuhiko Matsunaka did not take part in a Ni-gun game against Chunichi on Wednesday due to tightness in his body.  This likely pushes his return to Ichi-gun off until the 18th.

...Roberto Petagine is turning things up a notch.  After fielding practice on Wednesday, he took about 20 minutes of BP.  He then stood in the batter's box for pitchers throwing bullpens, after which he spent another 20 minutes in the cages.  Petagine currently has his sights set on making his debut in a real game sometime between the end of May and early June.

...Nobuhiro Matsuda threw the baseball around (distance of 30 meters, no glove, easy throws) for the first time since having surgery on his left wrist (5/9).  Matsuda is expected to miss about 2 months.

...Shuhei Fukuda struck out in his first official Ichi-gun AB of his career on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, Fukuda played in a Ni-gun game against Yakult and went 3-for-4.

...Hidenori Tanoue was added to the active roster on Wednesday and took part in his first Ichi-gun game since 4/20.  And according to Nikkan Sports, the runners have stolen 19 straight (including the five from last night's game) with him behind the plate.

...Toshiya Sugiuchi recorded his 7th MVP of the Month Award.  He also became just the second pitcher in league history to win the award at least once, four years straight.

Munenori Kawasaki was the MVP of the Month Award winner for non-pitchers.  It marked the 6th time in franchise history that both awards went to Hawks players, with the last time being back in 2005 when Arakaki and Matsunaka both won awards for the month of September.
