A 16-year-old student belonging to Okayama Gakugeikan High School's baseball team passed away on Sunday after hitting his head during fielding practice on Saturday.
According to school officials, the student was taking fielding practice on Saturday when he ran into a teammate and fell and banged his head against the ground. The student was taken to a hospital for CT scans on his head and nothing was found to be wrong.
At 9:30pm, the student returned to his dorm room. His dorm mates recalled that he was alert.
The following day, the students spoke to his mother at around 8am in the morning. But when the coach tried to contact the student in the afternoon, he could not get through. A teammate checked up on the student and found him incapacitated. Emergency personnel rushed to the scene but it was too late, the student was dead.
The school is now proceeding through the legal system to get the body autopsied so that a cause can be found.
