5/20/2010: Ichiro Suzuki, Hideki Matsui, Kenshin Kawakami

Games from the 19th:

Blue Jays 3 - Mariners 2
Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted first.  He went 1-for-5: ground out to third, ground out to second, fly out to short, RBI single to center, fly out to right.

The Mariners are currently in the middle of a 5-game losing streak.

Angels 3 - White Sox 2
Hideki Matsui was the starting DH and batted sixth.  He went 0-for-3: strikeout, fly out to center, ground out to second.  Matsui has been held hitless in his last three games.

Rangers 4 - Orioles 3
Koji Uehara entered the game in the 8th with the score tied at 3 and did not allow a run in 0.2 innings of work.  Final line: 0.2 IP, 4 BF, 1 H, 2 SO, 1 BB, 0 R, 0 ER.

Cubs 4 - Phillies 1
Kosuke Fukudome entered the game in the 9th as a defensive replacement in right in the 9th.  He did not have a chance to hit.

Braves 5 - Reds 4
Kenshin Kawakami started the game and did not get a decision despite tossing 6 shutout innings (the game was decided in the 9th).  Final line: 5 IP, 24 BF, 5 H, 5 SO, 1 BB, 0 R, 0 ER.

Kawakami is still looking for his first victory of the year (he's currently 0-6).

Takashi Saito entered the game in the 8th with the Braves up, 4-0.  Saito ended up allowing three runs in his 0.1 innings of work.  Final line: 0.1 IP, 4 BF, 3 H, 0 SO, 0 BB, 3 R, 3 ER.

This was Saito's third straight appearance in as many days.


Daisuke Matsuzaka tossed 76 pitches (all from the wind) in the bullpen on the 19th in preparation for his start on the 22nd against the Phillies.


Hideki Matsui will likely play left field in at least one of the three games against the Cardinals during a three game series that begins on the 21st at Busch Stadium.


Akinori Iwamura got the day off on the 19th to rest his right hamstring.
