Seibu Lions: May 20, 2010

by on May.20, 2010 @ 4:30 pm, under NPB

...Kazuhisa Ishii picked up a win against the Yakult Swallows last night.  That made him the 9th player in NPB history to record wins against all 12 teams of the NPB.  Throw in his victories against 17 different MLB teams and his victory against Kintetsu during the 2001 Nippon Series and he has 30 victories against 30 different clubs.  Coincidentally, his win last night also happened to be the teams 30th win of the year.

Ishii also:

...recorded his first complete game since 5/6/2008 vs the Nippon Ham Fighters.

...tossed 130+ pitches for the first time since 2001 (he threw a total 136 pitches last night).

...had his 40th double-digit strikeout game, good for 7th on the All-time list.

...Kimiyasu Kudo pitched in a Ni-gun game against Rakuten yesterday.  He entered the game in the 5th and retired the side in order.  Final line: 1 IP, 3 BF, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 HBP, 0 SO, 0 ER.

...Yusei Kikuchi threw 15 pitches off a mound during practice yesterday.  He didn't have much control over his pitches, but was able to throw them with a little more authority.  Kikuchi is currently working his way back from left shoulder discomfort.

...The Lions are the first team to 30 wins this year.  The club has now been the first team to 30 victories 14 times in franchise history.  Of the prior 13 times, the club has gone on to win the PL 12 times.  The last time the Lions reached 30 wins in 47 games or less was back in 1994 when they went 30-17.
