...Takao Obana spent about 30 minutes working with Shoma Sato today. Said Sato, "Up until now, I didn't have very good control because my release point was all over the place. But after getting some advice today, I think I have a better feel of it."
...Jose Castillo sat out two games after tweaking his right hamstring. He went 0-for-3 in his first game since the injury and told reporters that while he still wasn't at 100%, he was ok to play.
...Head coach Makoto Shinoda's comments after yesterday's loss to Masaru Takeda and the Nippon Ham Fighters:
"We were able to beat Darvish... It's embarrassing that we couldn't do the same with [an inferior] pitcher. And I told the hitters not to swing at pitches out of the zone."
I should note that while Shinoda didn't say "inferior" in so many words, it's what he likely meant when he used the word "あんな" (anna), which usually doesn't carry positive connotations.
...Seems the fans decided Yoshitomo Tsutsugo's nickname should be hama-no oozutsu (ハマの大筒), or Big Cannon of the Bay, during TBS' program called Love Bay Stars (ラブ・ベイスターズ). The fans apparently liked how the kanji in Big Cannon (大筒) is the same as the first kanji in Tsutsugo (筒香).
Fittingly, Tsutsugo is coming off a Ni-gun game against Lotte on Saturday in which he went 3-for-5 with a grand slam.
