The Wakayama Board of Education ruled to cut the salary of a teacher at Shingu High School on Tuesday (by 10% over a two month period). According to BoE officials, the teacher, a former baseball manager, struck a second year high school student in the head three times during a team meeting on January 12th. The student was apparently looking down at the ground while laughing. It seems the teacher struck the student again when he tried to apologize later on (once using a book and twice with his bare hands).
The teacher was immediately disciplined (1/18) after details of the beating came to light -- the teacher was also replaced by a new manager on 4/1.
Sadly, this isn't the first case of this teacher beating a student under his charge -- he reportedly beat a student when he was managing a baseball team at another school between 2005 and 2006 and was forced to step down on 9/2006.
