Yomiuri Giants: June 1, 2010

by on Jun.01, 2010 @ 3:29 pm, under NPB

...Tetsuya Utsumi told reporters after practice yesterday that if his team manages to win the Inter-league series jackpot of 50M yen (given to the team with the best record), he'd like to see if it might be possible to donate a portion of the winnings to the relief effort in Miyazaki.

Utsumi is schedule to start today's game against the Chiba Lotte Marines.

...Hayato Sakamoto and Ryota Wakiya both took BP in the cages during practice at Giants Stadium yesterday.  Sakamoto was allowed to skip practice on the 28th due to a cold and Wakiya is trying to make-up for poor performance at the plate on the 30th (he was yanked after two strikeouts).

...Seth Greisinger worked out at Giants Stadium yesterday and played catch at distances of 40 meters.  He's also currently scheduled to hold a bullpen session today.  Said Greisinger, "I'll throw fastball.  Once I get to about 80%, then I'll mix in my off-speed stuff."  If his rehab training goes well, he could pitch in a Ni-gun game later this month and be back on the active roster in early July.

...Tetsuya Yamaguchi likely won't be making a return to the starting rotation this year.

...Upcoming events at Tokyo Dome:

6/4, 5, 6 - Giants Eco Series (ジャイアンツecoシリーズ).

6/5 - Alex Ramirez' Yorokon-Day (ヨロコンデー).

6/7 - Daisuke Ochi and Tetsuya Yamaguchi Player's Day.
