A 22-year-old manager for the Sugimori High School soft baseball team retired from his post after the school found out that he caught three players smoking and failed to report the incident.
According to school offcials, the manager took four players to a Karaoke store on May 1st and caught three of them smoking. One of the four students then posted details of their Karaoke store visit on their blog, which was in turn read by a student attending the school. That student reported the incident to a teacher, who in turn reported it to the school (on 5/27).
The three students that were said to be smoking were suspended by the school. The fourth student was given a warning by the school principal. The baseball teams also withdrew from the Spring Prefectural Tournaments, where they were apparently doing well.
The manager submitted a resignation some time in the middle of May, citing only personal reasons for his decision. The resignation was later accepted on the 31st.
