6/10/2010: Kenshin Kawakami, Ichiro Suzuki, Kei Igawa

by on Jun.10, 2010 @ 6:48 pm, under MLB

Games from the 9th:

Angels 7 - Athletics 1
Hideki Matsui was the starting DH and batted fifth.  He went 2-for-5: GIDP, strikeout swinging, single to right, strikeout swinging, RBI single to right.

Texas 12 - Mariners 2
Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted first.  He went 1-for-4: strikeout swinging, fly out to left, double to right, fly out to center.

Nationals 7 - Pirates 5
Akinori Iwamura entered the game as a pinch-hitter for the pitcher in the top of the 8th and struck out looking.  He did not take the field in the bottom of the inning.

Diamondbacks 2 - Braves 1
Kenshin Kawakami started the game and tossed 6 shutout innings and was not involved in the decision.  Final line: 6 IP, 25 BF, 4 H, 8 SO, 4 BB, 0 R, 0 ER.

Daisuke Matsuzaka tossed 15 warm-up pitches in a bullpen session on the 9th and had to call it quits after he started feeling nauseous.  He apparently took in a lot of fluids while resting in the trainer's room.  It doesn't appear to be a cold -- Terry Francona told reporters he felt that it might have been something he ate.  This setback should have no effect on his next start.

Kei Igawa gave up 3 runs over 3.1 innings of relief work in a triple-A game against the  Charlotte Knights on the 9th.  Final line: 3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO

What does Kawakami have to do to get a win this year?
I guess hit a couple HRs with the scoreless innings

BR notes that the offense is averaging about 3.1 runs per game during his starts. To put that into context, the other starter for the Dodgers:

      Tim Hudson 6.1
      Derek Lowe 5.9
      Tommy Hanson 5.7
      Jair Jurrjens 2.9
