All Japan University Championships – Day Five Notes

by on Jun.13, 2010 @ 10:56 am, under College

...Takahiro Shiomi consecutive scoreless innings streak ended at 55.1 innings when he gave up a runs in the 1st inning against Toyo University.  He ultimately ended up allowing 3 runs over 7 innings of work (28 BF, 5 H, 8 SO, 2 BB).

...Tomoyuki Sugano (Tokai University) tossed a 4-hit shutout against Keio University and racked up 17 strikeouts in the process (while throwing 142 pitches).  He also struck out a batter (looking) on a 155km/h fastball in the bottom of the 6th with a runner on third and two out.  Sugano also struck out 5 consecutive batters at one point.

Incidentally, seems like the Yomiuri Giants are swooning over this kid.  Said Giants' owner Takuo Takihana, "I came here to root for Keio University, but I ended up watching the game with a critical eye.  To exaggerate would be to say that Sugano did all the work.  He's going to be on everyone's radar next year, like the eye of a typhoon."

A few photos of mine of Sugano are here so far.

Duh, of course the Giants are swooning over him. I have no doubt they would draft him just on the “He’s Hara’s nephew” excuse, but the fact that he also happens to be AWESOME is no deterrent either. I still like him despite that he is destined to become one of them someday.

Thanks for the link to the images.

As for the Giants comment… Not everyone that visits this blog knows that. My comment was geared more for them then for people that know of him as you do.

Not everyone knows what? That he’s Hara’s nephew? It’s in the article you’ve linked to AND you have mentioned it on here several times before. You either omitted it here yourself, or you’re getting uppity for some completely unknown reason.

Woah. Uppity? Where am I getting uppity?

I just merely pointed out that the Giants were interested in him and you jumped all over me.

Unless of course I’m reading into your use of “Duh” too deeply.
