Games from the 16th:
Mariners 2 - Cardinals 1
Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted first. He went 2-for-4: double to left, ground out to second, strikeout swinging, single to center. Ichiro also stole his 20th base of the season after his single to center in the 8th inning (he was also picked-off after the SB).
Ichiro has now hit safely in 6 straight games and has stolen at least 20 bases in 10 straight seasons.
The Pirates designated Akinori Iwamura for assignment on the 16th. If the Pirates can't move him, they'll option him to Indianapolis to see if he can regain his old form.
Kazuo Matsui went 0-for-4 in a triple-A game against the Tacoma Rainiers on the 16th (first game of a doubleheader). Matsui started at second and batted second.
Assuming there are no setbacks, Daisuke Matsuzaka's next start could come on the 24th against the Colorado Rockies.
On the 16th, Matsuzaka played some catch for about 25 minutes. Moving forward, he is scheduled to toss a bullpen session on the 17th and then pitch with hitters standing in the batter's box on either the 19th or 20th.
Takashi Saito threw about 30 pitches in the bullpen on the 16th. It was his first bullpen since he got sidelined with a left hamstring injury.
Hisanori Takahashi threw 40 pitches in the bullpen on the 16th. His next start will be on the 18th against the Yankees.
