Hanshin Tigers: June 18, 2010

...The Tigers ideal line-up would have Takashi Toritani batting third and Matt Murton batting first.  But unless Toritani gets out of his mini-slump, he'll likely continue to bat first with Murton batting third.

...Akihiro Yano did some weight training and aerobics at the Naruohama training facilities yesterday.

...Randy Messenger started a Ni-gun game against Hiroshima yesterday and gave up 6 runs over 5 innings of work.  Prior to yesterday's start, Messenger was 2-0 in two Ni-gun starts with a 0.69 ERA.  The Tiger were / are hoping that Messenger can place a little positive pressure on Jason Standridge and Casey Fossum.

Said Messenger, "I've put up decent numbers.  The two guys [at Ichi-gun] have had rough stretches as well.  But that doesn't change anything.  I have to remain focused and keep moving forward."

...It seems both team owner Shinya Saki and club president Nobuo Minami feel it makes sense to bring back Akinobu Mayumi next season.

Said Minami, "There is no clear line [for what he needs to accomplish] in order to return.  [A lot of things will go into it, like] how games are  played out and what our expectations are for next season.  If the team falls apart and finishes in last, then that's another story.  But in general, we'd like him to manage for as long as possible."

...Joshin Denki announced today that their brick and mortar stores will be holding special sales (for point club members) the day after a Tigers' victory (between 6/18 and 7/16).
