WUBC: Japan’s practice new and notes

A three day mini-camp for Team Japan began on the 19th at Hiratsuka Stadium in Kanagawa.

During an intra-squad practice game on Saturday...

Seiya Inoue (Chuo) collected three hits, including a double in his first at bat off Yusuke Nomura (Meiji).  Inoue is favored to be the clean-up hitter for Japan during the WUBC.

Saito Yuki (Waseda) made an appearance in relief and faced four batters and struck out three (including a dropped strikeout) in one inning of work.  He topped out at 146km/h.

Hirokazu Sawamura (Chuo) tossed two shutout innings in relief and topped out 153km/h.  Yudai Ono (Bukkyo) also tossed two shutout innings in relief.

During an intra-squad practice game on Sunday...

Masahiro Inui (Toyo) and Yusuke Nomura were the starters.

Takahiro Fujioka (Toyo) tossed two shutout inning and struck out three.

Yuki Saito and Hirokazu Sawamura did not pitch.

Other general notes:

Team Japan will likely going with a 3-man rotation for the first round.  Saito Yuki, Hirokazu Sawamura, and Yudai Ono are all possible candidates.  Other pitchers that could make the final roster: Tatsuya Oishi (Waseda), Takahiro Fujioka, and Yusuke Nomura.  Tomoyuki Sugano (Tokai) could be a fourth starter after the first round.

The final roster of 22 will be announced tomorrow (6/21).
