Hideki Matsui might not be ready to return to Japan next year, even so, the Hanshin Tigers will be sending two fairly high level execs (managing director Kenji Ageshio and Koshien Stadium chief Kazuo Awai) to check in on Matsui to see how he's doing.
This seems like a fairly risky move to make for the Tigers. While Matsui knees appear to be doing alright so far this season, who knows if he'd be able to play out a full season in the outfield.
The other option would be to convert him to play another position, like first base. But if the Tigers want to keep Brazell, then first base won't be an option for Matsui.
In the end, if Matsui were to return to Japan next year, he'd probably be better suited to play in the Pacific League where teams would at least have the to option of DH'ing him every now and then.
