Hiroshima Carp: June 22, 2010

by on Jun.22, 2010 @ 3:27 pm, under NPB

...Kan Otake worked out at Mazda Stadium on Monday in preparation for tonight's start against the Hanshin Tigers.  It seems Otake is still a little worried about his right shoulder, but feels that the warmer weather will be good for it.  His training on Monday included running sprints and playing catch (to help strengthen his shoulder).

...Tomohiro Umetsu tossed about 70 pitches during BP yesterday.

...The Carp don't plan on making any major changes to their running game, despite Kenji Jojima's presence behind the plate.  Jojima has thrown out 33.3% of base-runners (good for third in the league) and threw out 52.6% of base-runners during Inter-league play.

...Koji Hiroike joined the Ichi-gun team for practice on Sunday and will likely be added to the active roster today.  Hiroike went under the knife last year in April (left elbow) and last pitched at Ichi-gun on 9/30/2008 (vs Yakult).

...Masato (retired kickboxer) will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch on 7/1 (vs Yomiuri Giants).
