For the first time since he started playing in the Majors, Daisuke Matsuzaka threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session one day before a start. Said Matsuzaka, "[The bullpen session] was just an extension of playing catch. And there's obviously a good reason for it."

Bobby Valentine officially withdrew his name from a pool of possible managerial candidates for the Baltimore Orioles. Seems he's more interested in the vacancy with the Florida Marlins.
