Hanshin Tigers: June 30, 2010

by on Jun.30, 2010 @ 4:35 pm, under NPB

...As mentioned last night, the Tigers hit 5 homers last night at Koshien Stadium for the first time since 9/23/1986 (vs Chunichi).  It should also be noted that if you exclude Koshien Stadium, this was actually the second time this season that the Tigers went yard 5 times in one game  -- the first time came on 4/13 at Tokyo Dome.

Craig Brazell hit 3 of the 5 homers and became the third foreigner player in franchise history to hit a home run in three straight at bats: Willie Kirkland did it in 1968 and 1970; and Harold Breeden in 1977.

Brazell's home runs came in his first three trips to the plate.  Brazell is the 8th player in franchise history (and accomplished 11 times in franchise history) to hit home runs in three consecutive at bats.  According to Nikkan Sports, he's the first foreign player for Hanshin to do it at Koshien Stadium.

...Matt Murton extended his hitting streak to 14 games.

...The Tigers decided to demote Ryunosuke Yokoyama after his outing last night.  Yokoyama appeared in his second game of the season and allowed 2 runs (both earned) in 0.2 innings of work.

...Takashi Toritani recorded his 900th career hit last night against the Chunichi Dragons.  His 900th hit came in the 3rd inning off Kenta Asakura.
