Yomiuri Giants: July 1, 2010

by on Jul.01, 2010 @ 5:11 pm, under NPB

...Shinnosuke Abe finished out the month of June with 14 home runs.  It's the second time in his career that he's finished a month out with 14 or more home runs (the first time was when he tied an NPB mark for most number of homers in a month with 16 back in April 2004).  Abe is only the third player in NPB history to finish out two months with 14 or more homers.  The other two: Sadaharu Oh and Alex Cabrera.

...Hayato Sakamoto went 1-for-4 last night and became the second player in the CL to record 100 hits this season.

...Tetsuya Matsumoto (started in center and batted second) went 1-for-4 with a double in a Ni-gun game against Shonan yesterday.  Earlier today, Matsumoto spent about 35 minutes taking BP at Giants Stadium.  Based on how he does in front of the coaches during practice tomorrow, he could be added to the active roster in time for the Hanshin Series that begins tomorrow night.

...Seth Greisinger is still scheduled to toss his first BP session tomorrow.  Afterward, he'll sit down with the coaches to discuss what happens next.

...Sanspo is already talking about a Climax Series Magic Number for the Yomiuri Giants -- if they win tonight, their Magic Number for clinching a CS spot would be 58.
