...Kentaro Sekimoto has now reached base in 10 straight pinch-hit at bats. He is just one away from tying the NPB record of 11, set by Hitoshi Taneda (then with Chunichi) in 2000.
...Randy Messenger will likely start a game against the Yokohama Bay Stars on the 11th.
...Jason Standridge tossed his first complete game of the season (and of his NPB career) last night. Seems he also swallowed a bug at one point while on the mound and required the help of some water to wash it down. Seems Standridge also became the first foreigner on the Tigers to toss a complete game victory since Trey Moore on 5/5/2003.
...For about 3 minutes and at a distance of about 30 meters, Akihiro Yano played some catch yesterday. It was the first time he threw the ball around since injuring his right elbow.
...Matt Murton starting to slow down a bit? Murton is off to his worst start of the month. Here's a quick list of how Murton has fared in the first 5 games of each month so far this season:
March /April: 9-for-21 (.429)
May: 9-for-22 (.409)
June: 7-for-21 (.333)
July: 5-for-23 (.217)
Months are fairly arbitrary demarcations, so it's probably nothing to get to worried about. But perhaps it's time the Tigers gave him a day off? Or pulled him a little early in the game to get some rest? As of now, Murton has appeared in all 73 of the Tigers' games this season.
