...Katsuya Nomura was at Kleenex Stadium tonight to take in a game for the first time since getting out of the hospital. Seems he wasn't around long enough to see Todd Linden's 2-run homer in the 8th that gave the Eagles a 5-4 lead.
...Takeshi Yamasaki became the 9th player in NPB history to strikeout 1,500 times in his career when he struck out in the 2nd inning of last night's game against the Chiba Lotte Marines.
...Ryo Hijirisawa knocked out his 2nd homer of his season (and of his career) last night. It also happened to be a grand slam. Prior to this year, Hijirisawa had one extra base hit and 114 trips to the plate. So far this year, he has 21 extra base hits in 306 plate appearances. Sponichi seems to think part of the increase in power has to do with the heavier bat he started using this season: from 840 grams to 940 grams.
Said Hijirisawa, "At first I thought the bat was heavy, but I've gotten used to it now. I try to imagine myself swinging down on the ball."
