Softbank Hawks: July 10, 2010

by on Jul.10, 2010 @ 2:54 pm, under NPB

...Hiroki Kokubo is back on the active roster again (he's in the starting line-up at first base batting fifth).  It seems the Hawks are also leaning towards keeping Kokubo around for at least one more year.  Kokubo is currently 6 homers away from 400 and 196 hits away from 2,000.  According to Sports Hochi, Kokubo will probably continue playing until he reaches 2,000 hits.

...The Hawks are hoping Dennis Houlton will be able to start an Ichi-gun game on the 16th (vs Orix).  They also currently have Yao-Hsun Yang penciled in for a start on the 15th (vs Rakuten).  Kenji Otonari's Ichi-gun start would likely come on or after the 17th.  Nishinippon Shimbun mentions that Otonari will join the Ichi-gun roster tomorrow in preparation for a possible start on the 15th.

Tsuyoshi Wada last start before the All-Star break could be on the 19th (vs Seibu).  If that happens, Toshiya Sugiuchi and Shinsuke Ogura would likely following on the 20th and 21st.

...Hitoshi Tamura got the day off yesterday in order to get his left knee examined.  He apparently hurt the knee during a game against the Nippon Ham Fighters on the 6th.  It doesn't appear to be anything major since Tamura is in the starting line-up today.

...Yuichi Honda worked on his bunting with Koji Akiyama during practice yesterday.

...The Hawks announced an event called the Hawks Virtual Stamp Rally 2010 (ホークスバーチャルスタンプラリー2010).  Fans with iPhones that attend home games between 7/19 - 7/29, 8/10 - 8/29, and 9/7 - 9/23 will be able to take pictures three different virtual Hawks players -- Honda, Nobuhiro Matsuda, and Tadashi Settsu -- via an AR (augmented reality) app that will be available for free in the App Store.
