The Japan University National Team played a practice game against Industrial league team JR Higashi Nihon on Sunday and demolished them, 21-5.
Some notes from the game:
Team Japan collected a total 20 hits. That includes a 2-run single by Hayata Ito in the first and a 2-run homer off the bat of Hiroshi Taki in the third inning (Taki started at first and batted eighth). Japan actually had 18 hits and 20 runs after 5 innings of play (it seems they put up 6 runs in the 4th and 7 runs in the 5th).
Hirokazu Sawamura started the game and had to be removed in the 3rd inning with runners on first and second and 1 out due to pain in his right flank. Tamotsu Enomoto told reporters he thought it was just a cramp and that it probably wasn't anything major.
Masahiro Inui entered the game following Sawamura and was apparently responsible for the 5 runs JR Higashi Nihon scored. Yusuke Nomura also pitched (I think maybe the 6th and 7th innings).
Tomoyuki Sugano entered the game in the 8th and tossed two shutout innings while strike out three. Seems Sugano has also been working on pitching inside (since foreigners have a tough time handling inside pitches).
