Hanshin Tigers’ rotation for Dragons and Giants series takes shape

by on Jul.30, 2010 @ 4:50 pm, under NPB

Yasutomo Kubo will likely start tonight's game against the Chunichi Dragons.  Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi will likely go tomorrow with Tsuru Naoto following on 8/1.  After that, vs the Yomiuri Giants beginning on 8/3: Jason Standridge, Randy Messenger, and then Kubo again on 5 days rest.

In other team news:

Minoru Iwata (left elbow surgery) could begin throwing in the bullpen again in early August.  He has already started playing catch.

Atsushi Nomi (fractured right cuneiform bone) threw 21 pitches to a squatting catcher in the bullpen today after he was given the green light by doctors yesterday.  If things go well, he could return to pitching in Ni-gun games by the middle of August.  That also means there's still a chance he could return to the active roster before the end of August.  An earlier Sanspo article is a little more conservative and mentions 8/24 as being the date he'll pitch in his first Ni-gun game with a possible return in September.

2010 Draft: it seems the Tigers like high school prospect Justin Nakano and might try to draft him this year.
