The name change could be implemented in time for the Pheonix League.

The Bay Stars are apparently planning on renaming the Shonan Searex back to the Yokohama Bay Stars (beginning next season) in an effort cut back on expenses (Shonan has continually ended their fiscal years at around 200M in the red).  By having one team name between Ichi-gun and Ni-gun, the organization would not only be able to share uniforms between the two levels, but also get rid of the Searex operations department.

The Shonan Searex name came to be in 2000 as an attempt to help differentiate the Ichi-gun and Ni-gun squads.  And asides from the aforementioned economical reasons, having a separate name doesn't allow for good branding potential and, according to team officials, the Shonan name hasn't necessarily helped raise aware of the team (it seems the team is also concerned about casual fans living outside of the Yokohama market not being able to identify the team).
