Masahiro Yamamoto extended a record of his own with a victory of the year on Saturday: Yamamoto now has at least one victory in 23 consecutive seasons (Kimiyasu Kudo actually broke the record earlier this year and the two are tied again atop the NPB). Yamamoto also recorded his 25th season as a player on the active roster (tops in the CL and third in NPB history). Kudo (29 years) and Katsuya Nomura (26 years) hold the NPB record.
At 44 years and 11 months, Yamamoto is also the second pitcher to record a victory over the age of 40. Shinji Hamasaki holds the record and did it twice in his career: once at 45 years and 9 months and another at 46 years and 8 months. The Central League record was previously held by Kudo (44 years and 4 months).
And Hitoki Iwase also did some extending on Saturday when he pushed his own NPB record for most consecutive seasons with 30 or more saves to 6.
