Masahiro Tanaka picks up first mushikyu complete game victory

by on Aug.23, 2010 @ 12:49 pm, under NPB

Masahiro Tanaka (RAK) tossed a complete game 4-0 shutout against Softbank last night.  It was Tanaka's first mushikyu complete game shutout victory of his career (third mushikyu complete game overall -- 6/16/2008 vs Yomiuri, 3 R, loss; and 8/8/2009 vs Nippon Ham, 1 R, win).  Incidentally, this was Tanaka's 7th shutout victory of his career.

Tanaka also became the first pitcher since Yutaka Enatsu to record enough innings to qualify for an ERA title in four straight seasons since joining the NPB out of high school.  Enatsu's record is 10 straight seasons between 1967 - 1976.

Tanaka improved to 9-1 in 14 August starts over his career.  And he's gone 8-0 since his only August loss on 8/17/2007 (vs Softbank).
