Masaru Takeda: 89-pitch complete game

by on Aug.23, 2010 @ 7:52 am, under NPB

Masaru Takeda (HAM) needed only 89 pitches to toss a complete game, 4-1 victory over the Seibu Lions yesterday.  The last pitcher to toss a 9-inning complete game victory with 90 pitches or less was Shunsuke Watanabe (LOT) and his 88-pitch complete game victory over the Seibu Lions on 7/20/2008.  The last Fighters' pitcher: Tomoya Yagi's 84-pitch complete victory against Hiroshima on 5/19/2006.

Takeda also became the first pitcher in franchise history, since Akihito Kaneishi in 1992, to record three mushikyu (no BBs and now HBPs) complete game victories in a season (6/6 vs Yokohama; 6/2 vs Softbank; and 8/22 vs Seibu).
