Crazy Hanshin Tigers’ Offense

by on Sep.01, 2010 @ 3:42 pm, under NPB

Craig Brazell is just one home run away from becoming the first foreigner on the Tigers to hit 40 homers in a season since Randy Bass hit 47 in 1986.

Keiichi Hirano went 5-for-5 last night.  The last time he did that was back on 4/2/2005 (when he was with Orix).  Throw in the three hits he ended with on the 29th and Hirano 8 hits in his last 8 at bats.  Note: that's in 10 plate appearances since he also had a walk on the 29th and a sac hit on the the 31st.

The Tigers recorded their third 20+ hit game in the month of August last night and tied a franchise record that was last set in July, 1946.  The Tigers collected 20 hits against Hiroshima on the 25th; 20 hits against the Yakult on the 29th; and 22 hits against Yokohama on the 31st.

The Tigers collected a hit in 20 consecutive innings, tying a club record that was set in 1949.  That's at least on hit in every inning since the 5th inning on 8/28 against the Yakult Swallows, through to the 6th inning on 8/31 against the Yokohama Bay Stars.

Check out the crazy totals from those 20 innings:
