Matt Murton went 3-for-4 yesterday against the Hiroshima Carp and how has 175 hits on the year. That breaks the previous record of 174 hits, set by Phil Clark in 1997, for first year foreign players. Murton also had 2 RBIs yesterday, making him the 5th player on the Tigers with 80 or more RBI (a franchise first). The other four players: Craig Brazell (103), Takahiro Arai (96), Takashi Toritani (90), and Kenji Jojima (81).
As a team, the Tigers recorded their fourth 20+ hit game yesterday and tied the CL record set by the 1950 Taiyo Whales, the 1953 and 1954 Yomiuri Giants, and the 1946 and 1985 Hanshin Tigers. The NPB record of five 20+ hits games was set by the 1949 Daiei Stars and the 2003 Daiei Hawks.
The Tigers also tied the NPB record for 20+ hit games in a two month period with two other teams: the 1946 Hanshin Tigers and the 2003 Daiei Hawks.
