Both the Hiroshima Carp and the Yokohama Bay Stars lost tonight.
With 22 games remaining for the Carp and a 48-72-2 record, they can no longer finish the season with a .500 or better record. The last time the Carp had a record over 500 was back in 2001 when they went 68-65-7 (.511).
At 41-79-1 and with 23 games remaining, Yokohama can not finish any higher than fourth. Even if they were to win all their remaining games, it wouldn't be enough to overtake the Giants' 65 wins (and the Giants are currently in 3rd). The last time the Bay Stars did better than fourth was in 2005 when they finished the year in third.
