Swallows’ rotation over the next four days

by on Sep.09, 2010 @ 12:14 pm, under NPB

The Swallows will likely start the following four pitchers over the next four days: Masanori Ishikawa, Yoshinori Sato, Shohei Tateyama, and Kyohei Muranaka.  That's Ishikawa to finish out the final game against the Carp tonight, then Yoshinori, Tateyama, and Muranaka against the Hanshin Tigers at Koshien Stadium.

Looks like Sanspo got it wrong.

Yeah. I’m guessing the Swallows started Yoshinori over Ishikawa Thursday night because Yoshinori was 4-0 against the Carp prior to the loss. And while Ishikawa is working on a three game winning streak against the Carp, he has also pitched better against the Tigers this season than Yoshinori (Yoshinori – 3 G, 1-2, 5.60 ERA, 1.53 WHIP vs Ishikawa – 3 G, 1-1, 2.79 ERA, 1.09 WHIP).

So pitching Yoshinori Thursday night and Ishikawa Friday night actually makes a lot more sense.

Yakult has to take some chances if they want to overtake a powerful Yomiuri team. With five games to go against the Giants and four against the Dragons, this is a tough stretch that will require the team to go with their best starters on short rest just to have a crack.
