Hitoki Iwase (CHU) reached the 40-save mark last night for the second year in a row. That gives Iwase a total five 40 or more save seasons over the course of his career. Iwase is the only closer in NPB history to record more than one 40+ save season in his career. The other pitchers that have saved 40+ games in their careers: Kyuji Fujikawa (46 in 2007), Kazuhiro Sasaki (45 in 1998), Marc Kroon (41 in 2008).
Iwase's 40 saves is currently tops in both leagues -- the high in the Pacific League is Brian Sikorski's (SEI) 33.
