Matt Murton picks up his 21st modasho of the year

by on Sep.19, 2010 @ 4:35 am, under NPB

Matt Murton (HAN) went 3-for-4 yesterday and now has 194 hits on the year, good for sole possession of first on the club's all-time single season hit list.

The three hits also gave Murton his 21st modasho of the year, tying a club record that was set by Makoto Imaoka (2002) and Norihiro Akahoshi (2005).

Murton did not score any runs yesterday, but if he manages to collect 200 or more hits this season AND score 100 or more (he's currently sitting on 97), he'll become just the third player in NPB history to achieve the feat.  The other two: Ichiro Suzuki (1994, 210 H, 111 R) and Norichika Aoki (2005, 202 H, 100 R).
