9/24/2010: Ichiro Suzuki, Kosuke Fukudome, Hiroki Kuroda

by on Sep.24, 2010 @ 2:51 pm, under MLB

Games from the 23rd:

Blue Jays 1 - Mariners 0
Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted first.  He went 2-for-5: strikeout swinging, double to left, single to center, ground out to the pitcher, fly out to second.

And as mentioned earlier, Ichiro managed to record his tenth consecutive 200-hit season.  It probably doesn't need to be said, but it seems most of Japan is excited about the feat -- it was one of the top stories on the morning news shows.

Incidentally, when Ichiro was asked about how he felt tying Pete Rose's record of ten 200-hit seasons, he replied, "I welcome the opportunity to break it."

Giants 13 - Cubs 0
Kosuke Fukudome started in right and batted seventh.  He went 0-for-2: ground out to the pitcher, fly out to short.  Fukudome was taken out of the game on defense in the 5th.

Dodgers 3 - Padres 1
Hiroki Kuroda started the game and gave up 1 run over 8 innings of work for his 11th victory of the year.  Kuroda is now 11-13.  Final line: 8 IP, 27 BF, 5 H, 4 SO, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 ER.
