On 8/16/1979, Minoshima High School and Seiryo High School played in an 18-inning marathon that last 16 hours and 6 minutes.
By many accounts, this was by far the best Koshien game every played. And to commemorate this game, the original members of both teams have played a number of games against each other since 1994*.
This year the two teams had the opportunity to "replay" their game on the hallowed grounds at Koshien Stadium as part of a ceremony to commemorate the opening of the Museum of Hanshin Koshien Stadium.
The game actually took place this past Thursday and saw Seiryo beat Minoshima, 17-13.
You can see some images from the game at the Museum of Hanshin Koshien Stadium staff blog.
Incidentally, all the players involved are now in their late 40s.
* The two teams have played at least one commemorative game once every 10 years and have so far played games in 1994 (in Wakayama) and 2004 (in Kanazawa); they also played a game in 2007 to celebrate Minoshima High School's 100th Anniversary.
