If Hisashi Iwakuma (RAK) wants to go to the Majors this off-season, it appears the Rakuten Eagles will go along with it. And while Iwakuma continues to shoot down questions regarding his desire to head to the Majors, it seems he has told people close to him that he would like to take that challenge.
With the chances of Iwakuma posting being really high, the Eagles are also thinking about having Iwakuma pitch one last time in relief (1-2 innings) during their final home game of the season (on the 29th vs Seibu).
Tampa Bay Rays international scout Tateki Uchibori told reporters that while he didn't see Iwakuma going for $20M, he does expect to see some clubs fighting over him.
From a financial stand point, the Eagles probably figured that it sense to post him. Iwakuma has just one year left on his contract and is also just one year away from earning his international FA option. If the Eagles don't post him during the off-season this year, he's likely to walk after the 2011 and they get nothing. This way, at least they get the posting fee.
